What is vibe code cleanup?
The work between an AI-built app that runs and one you can trust. Here is what it actually involves.
In short
Vibe code cleanup is the engineering work that makes an AI-generated app safe and maintainable: reading what was generated, closing security gaps, putting access rules in the database, adding tests, removing duplicated or dead code, and setting up releases and monitoring. It keeps what works and replaces what cannot be trusted, rather than rewriting the app from scratch.

Why it matters when your prototype goes to production
The screens an AI builder produces are usually worth keeping: they encode decisions the founder has already made about the product. What needs work is underneath, where nobody looked. Cleanup is how you keep the first and fix the second without starting again.
What it usually involves
- An audit: what the code does, where data goes, what a stranger can reach.
- Security first: access rules in the database, secrets off the client, inputs validated on the server.
- Tests around what works, so the next change cannot quietly break it.
- Structure: one way of doing each thing, instead of five generated variations.
- Releases and monitoring: staging, rollbacks, alerts.
Two of our case studies show the shape of it. On Zulu we kept the client's screens and rebuilt the system underneath. On Looph the automated test count went from 1,152 at handover to 10,387.
Common questions
Is it cheaper to clean up or to rewrite?
Usually to clean up, because the product decisions in the screens are kept. A rewrite makes sense only where the existing code cannot be tested or secured in place.
