How to hire a Lovable developer (and what it costs)
You can hire a Lovable developer three ways: a freelancer by the hour for a bounded fix, an agency or Lovable partner for a scoped project, or an engineering team on a subscription that builds, secures, tests, releases and runs the app every month. Clutch reports most listed software firms charge $24 to $49 an hour; our Starter plan is $2,999 a month billed yearly. If someone must own the live app, hire for ownership, not only for Lovable skills.
- Freelancer
- Hourly; best for one bounded fix
- Agency or Lovable partner
- Scoped project; price agreed per engagement
- Plutonapps Starter
- $2,999/mo yearly or $3,999/mo monthly
- Lovable's role
- Lists partners; does not set their prices or contracts
What does a Lovable developer actually do?
Most people who search for a Lovable developer need one of three things: someone to finish what the prompts could not, someone to fix what broke when real users arrived, or someone to take responsibility for the app from now on. The first is prompting and front-end skill. The second and third are ordinary software engineering: data models, row-level security, payments, tests, releases and operations. Lovable writes React and uses Supabase for its backend, so the engineer you want is a good React and Postgres engineer, ideally one comfortable working alongside Lovable.
How much does it cost to hire a Lovable developer?
| Freelancer | Agency or Lovable partner | Plutonapps subscription | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it is priced | By the hour or a fixed fee per task | By project; partners set their own prices. For context, Clutch reports most listed software firms charge $24–$49 an hour, and US firms $50–$99 | Starter $2,999/mo billed yearly, or $3,999/mo month to month; Growth priced per product |
| Best for | One known problem, such as a broken integration | A defined build with a clear end | A live product that keeps changing and needs running |
| Security, tests and releases | Whatever you agree and check | Usually within the project scope | Regression, visual regression, code review and security checks on every change |
| After launch | Available if they are | A support or retainer contract, if you buy one | Monitoring and emergency support included; two deployments a week on Starter |
| Keeps working in Lovable | Depends on the person | Yes for Lovable partners; depends on the firm otherwise | Yes: you prompt in Lovable, we engineer each version into production |
Hourly rates are not the whole cost. Add the time you spend writing specifications and checking work, and the cost of whatever is not in scope: hosting, monitoring, security updates and the next feature. Our comparison of agencies, freelancers, in-house hires and subscriptions sets those side by side.
Freelancer, Lovable agency or engineering team: which do you need?
- Hire a freelancer when the problem is small and well defined, you can review the result yourself, and nobody needs to be on call afterwards. It is usually the cheapest option for that job.
- Hire an agency or Lovable partner when you need a defined project built to a deadline and are ready to write the brief, and when you have a plan for maintenance after handover.
- Subscribe to an engineering team when the app has, or will soon have, paying users and changes every week, and you want one team responsible for building, securing, releasing and running it.
What is a certified Lovable expert or partner?
Lovable runs a partner directory with two tracks. Plutonapps is not a listed partner and holds no Lovable certification; we specialise in taking apps built in Lovable to production. Solution Partners are service businesses building production software on Lovable for clients, with tier badges of Registered, Select, Premier or Elite. Experts are individual builders certified as Website Builder, App Builder or both, based on shipped projects, academy modules and manual review. Lovable says it does not sit in the middle of an engagement: scope, pricing and contracts are agreed between you and the partner.
A badge shows Lovable skill. Ask separately who runs the app after launch and how fast they respond, and ask to see live products they have shipped and still operate.
What should you ask before hiring anyone for your Lovable app?
- Can I keep editing in Lovable after you start, and how do my changes reach production?
- How do you test that one user cannot read another user's data?
- What runs on every change before it reaches production?
- Who owns the code, the data and the infrastructure accounts? (With us, you do.)
- Who responds when production breaks, and how fast?
- What happens if I stop paying: what do I get handed over? See code handover.
How does hiring Plutonapps work?
Your team keeps prompting and redesigning in Lovable. When a version is ready, it is sent to our engineers, who build it into the real product, test it, ship it and sync the live result back to Lovable. It is a development subscription, not developer hours: there is no per-change fee, and on Starter an engineer starts on a change within two business days of it being submitted. Real engineers do the work, and you own the code, data and infrastructure. If you stop, we hand over the repositories, infrastructure and documentation.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Lovable developer cost per hour?
We found no published rate data for Lovable work specifically, so general software rates are the best guide. They vary widely by country and experience. Clutch's pricing guide, updated in September 2026, reports that most software development firms it lists charge $24 to $49 an hour, and US firms $50 to $99. Freelancers set their own rates. A subscription such as ours charges a flat monthly price instead of hours.
Is a Lovable expert the same as a software engineer?
Not necessarily. Lovable's Expert certification recognises builders who have shipped projects with Lovable. Running an app in production also needs engineering skills such as database design, access control, testing, deployment and incident response, so ask about those directly.
Can you work on my existing Lovable project?
Yes. We start with an architecture review of what exists, build around it, and connect your team's Lovable workspace so you keep prompting there while our engineers make each version real in production.
Do I own the code if I hire Plutonapps?
Yes. The real product, its code, its data and its infrastructure belong to you. If you stop the subscription, we hand over the repositories, infrastructure and documentation and support the transition.
How quickly do your engineers start on a change?
On the Starter plan, an engineer starts on a submitted change within up to two business days; on Growth, time to action is instant. That is when work starts, not a promise of when the whole change is finished.
